Day 1

create a sit spot

12 days of nature fun! (3)_edited.jpg

Day 1 - Create a sit spot

Our bodies use over 30 different senses to monitor the world around us in order to keep us safe and comfortable. With technology and modern distractions consuming our attention, immersing ourselves in nature and engaging our senses returns us to our most natural state of being.

Reconnecting ourselves regularly with the natural world has profound health & wellbeing benefits for our whole body; physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

Day 2
explore & map your soundscape

Day 2 - Explore & map your soundscape

A soundscape is the acoustic sounds we experience when immersed in an environment.

A wonderful way to orientate and ground yourself in a new environment - natural or human made, providing you with a deeper sense of place.

Your mind interprets these sounds by naming and cataloguing them, deciding how you will interact with these sounds emotionally and physically.

Day 3
dance with nature's shadows & reflections

Day 3 - Dance with nature's shadows & reflections

When we slow down and allow ourselves to explore beyond the objects themselves as they are, we find a whole new magical world of shadows, reflections, textures both large and intricate!

Sometimes shadows have holes in them which cast patterns of their own, sometimes they dance with the movement of wind, some shadows are cast onto the surface of water which in itself creates new patterns as the water ripples, or be utterly mesmerised by the fluid reflective patters of water as it dances on overhanging tree branches or rocks... There's an enormously fascinating world just waiting for you to explore together!

Day 4
bare foot wanders & grounding

Day 4 - bare foot wanders & grounding

Free your feet from the confines of shoes! Our amazing feet are organically designed to be highly flexible and mobile to adapt to the terrain and move us through our natural environment.

Go bare foot as often as you can on as many different surfaces, textures and terrains as possible. Start with soft textures and surfaces as you work up to coarser and sharper textures such as gravel and small sticks or dry grasses.

By baring our feet to the earth, we are able to directly absorb natural energies and electrons, this is known as grounding (or earthing) and it promotes a state of calm, reduces stress, supports healthy heart, brain and nervous system functions just which flows on to all body systems.

Day 5
An old tree & its magical ecosystem

Day 5 - An old tree & its magical ecosystem

Immerse yourselves in the magical and unique ecosystems that thrive at the base of old trees, particularly amongst the winding root system.

Sentient trees are just like an organism such as ourselves, sensing, communicating and cooperating with the world around them and each other. They are wonderful beings with innate adaptability and intelligence. Share time with an old tree, feel its ancient energy.

Day 6
Moving cloud art & picnic rugs

Day 6 - Moving cloud art & picnic rugs

Cloud spotting is a delightful way to slow down, return to the present moment and enjoy the art of 'just being' as you observe the natural world around you with a sense of wonder.

This relaxing, mindful and creative activity can be done from indoors and offers connection with the natural world when you can't get outside.

Find a comfortable space to lay on your back directly on the ground or spread out your picnic rug. Engage your senses of sight, wonder and creativity as you observe mesmerising cloud formations coming and going, forming and disappearing before your eyes.

Allow your imagination to fly away, enjoy being present in the moment.

Day 7
Embrace a sunrise awakening

13_edited.jpg

Day 7 - embrace a sunrise awakening

Not only is this experience highly emotive and awe inspiring, at a biological level you are synching yourself with nature's rhythms, cycles and flow - realigning your circadian clocks and all body systems to their natural state (including attention restoration and mental clarity), providing health benefits for your whole being; physically, emotionally, mentally & spiritually.

Day 8
A twilight wander & moonrise

16_edited_edited.jpg

Day 8 - A twilight wander & moonrise

Watching a sunset is a wonderful way to relax your nervous system, provide your mind with space to reflect and process your day, and prepare your body for restful sleep in the calming power of twilight.

Day 9
Explore a creek or river

17_edited.jpg

Day 9 - Explore a creek or river

These precious and vibrant ecosystems are teeming with life to observe and explore, and provide a wonderful natural space for respectful sensory play, self-exploration and nature connection for everyone.

Day 10
Magical world of pollinators

19_edited.jpg

Day 10 - Magical world of pollinators

A wondrous world on intricate details and mesmerising colours waiting to be explored in your garden and out in the natural environment! â€‹

Pollinators are crucial to the reproduction of plants, and the production of food for us and other living beings that we share this world with.

Take a magnifying glass and camera outdoors to observe, explore and document this magical world of pollinators in all of their magnificent forms from flies, moths, bees, wasps, beetles and butterflies to possums, birds and bats! How many can you observe and photograph?

Day 11
Scentscape treasure hunt

22_edited.jpg

Day 11 - Scentscape treasure hunt

Explore nature through its unique scentscapes; the fragrances within the environment around you detected by your olfactory senses - smell and stimulation of nerve fibers that connect directly with your brain which is the reason why some fragrances trigger heightened emotional responses and memories.

Engage your other senses to explore our landscape;

  • touch; collect different leaves from the ground, particularly eucalyptus leaves, crush them between your fingers to heat up and release the oils then smell them

  • sight & hearing; follow insects and animals as they pollinate fragrant flowers

Day 12
Nature's treasures

23_edited.jpg

Day 12 - nature's treasures

Make time to regularly take yourself for a gentle wander. Slow down... breathe deeply and nourish your lungs and body with plenty of fresh air... observe the small things rather than just the big... find life and treasures abundant all around you.

You are part of this natural ecosystem. Honour that part of you by immersing yourself in nature and coming home to your most natural state of being.

May you marvel at the small things, finding awe and curiosity in the natural world. It's a powerful antidote to stress!

Respectful play

A loving reminder to enjoy our natural world with a deep sense of reverence/respect;

  • leave no trace (take rubbish away with you)

  • be mindful of plants and animals when leaving a trail to explore

  • leave chemicals/pollutants out of waterways and the environment

  • we share the environment with other living beings to whom it is home, both plant and animal. If collecting natural materials or treasures, do so from the ground and not removed from a living plant - mindful of animals that use the material as shelter
